Oneg Guidelines

ONEG SHABBAT GUIDELINES  (printable flyer)

Temple membership includes the responsibility to host two onegs per year, one each 6 month period. Oneg Shabbats are the refreshments served typically after our Friday night services and occasionally on some holidays. The schedule is randomly made unless a request was made. An oneg has simple refreshments to include challah, grape juice, wine and additional finger foods of your choosing. A group of 3 or 4 families are assigned to do an oneg each week and a chairperson is assigned to help organize the group by calling each family to remind them about meeting at the temple for setup, cleanup and to see what each family is able to bring to go toward the refreshments. If you are unable to fulfill your oneg responsibility for any reason, please contact Fern daSilva in the Temple office at 540-373-4834 and let her know of your situation so other arrangements can be made. Failure to contact Fern in a timely way to make other arrangements will result in a $50.00 fee. The captain of each oneg team will be contacted on the Monday following the oneg to report any problems. By fulfilling your oneg responsibility, you do not put any unnecessary burdens on the rest of your oneg team, and onegs will be a pleasant experience for all. Thanks to all of our Temple members for your participation in the continuity of our weekly oneg Shabbats. The kitchen direction reminders are attached -see attachment. Don't hesitate to contact Fern if you have additional questions.
